Surah 'Alaq: The Cloth

In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

096.001
Yusufali:    Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created-
Pickthall:   Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth,
096.002
Yusufali:    Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood:
Pickthall:   Createth man from a clot.
096.003
Yusufali:    Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,-
Pickthall:   Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous,

Yusufali:    He Who taught (the use of) the pen,-
Pickthall:   Who teacheth by the pen,
096.005
Yusufali:    Taught man that which he knew not.
Pickthall:   Teacheth man that which he knew not.
096.006
Yusufali:    Day, but man doth transgress all bounds,
Pickthall:   Nay, but verily man is rebellious
096.007
Yusufali:    In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient.
Pickthall:   That he thinketh himself independent!
096.008
Yusufali:    Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all).
Pickthall:   Lo! unto thy Lord is the return.
096.009
Yusufali:    Seest thou one who forbids-
Pickthall:   Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth
096.010
Yusufali:    A votary when he (turns) to pray?
Pickthall:   A slave when he prayeth?
096.011
Yusufali:    Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?-
Pickthall:   Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah)
096.012
Yusufali:    Or enjoins Righteousness?
Pickthall:   Or enjoineth piety?
096.013
Yusufali:    Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away?
Pickthall:   Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward?
096.014
Yusufali:    Knoweth he not that God doth see?
Pickthall:   Is he then unaware that Allah seeth?
096.015
Yusufali:    Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,-
Pickthall:   Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock -
096.016
Yusufali:    A lying, sinful forelock!
Pickthall:   The lying, sinful forelock -
096.017
Yusufali:    Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades):
Pickthall:   Then let him call upon his henchmen!
096.018
Yusufali:    We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)!
Pickthall:   We will call the guards of hell.
096.019
Yusufali:    Day, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to God)!
Pickthall:   Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah).
 

 

Let us pray (Sura 20, Ayat 114) 'Ya Rabbi Zidni Ilma!' ('O Lord! Increase me in knowledge.') and seek spiritual help (ta'yid) to understand our great faith.
