086.001 | |
Yusufali: | By the Sky and the Night-Visitant (therein);- |
Pickthall: | By the heaven and the Morning Star |
086.002 | |
Yusufali: | And what will explain to thee what the Night-Visitant is?- |
Pickthall: | - Ah, what will tell thee what the Morning Star is! |
086.003 | |
Yusufali: | (It is) the Star of piercing brightness;- |
Pickthall: | - The piercing Star! |
086.004 | |
Yusufali: | There is no soul but has a protector over it. |
Pickthall: | No human soul but hath a guardian over it. |
086.005 | |
Yusufali: | Now let man but think from what he is created! |
Pickthall: | So let man consider from what he is created. |
086.006 | |
Yusufali: | He is created from a drop emitted- |
Pickthall: | He is created from a gushing fluid |

Yusufali: | Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs: |
Pickthall: | That issued from between the loins and ribs. |

Yusufali: | Surely (God) is able to bring him back (to life)! |
Pickthall: | Lo! He verily is Able to return him (unto life) |

Yusufali: | The Day that (all) things secret will be tested, |
Pickthall: | On the day when hidden thoughts shall be searched out. |
086.010 | |
Yusufali: | (Man) will have no power, and no helper. |
Pickthall: | Then will he have no might nor any helper. |
086.011 | |
Yusufali: | By the Firmament which returns (in its round), |
Pickthall: | By the heaven which giveth the returning rain, |
086.012 | |
Yusufali: | And by the Earth which opens out (for the gushing of springs or the sprouting of vegetation),- |
Pickthall: | And the earth which splitteth (with the growth of trees and plants) |
086.013 | |
Yusufali: | Behold this is the Word that distinguishes (Good from Evil): |
Pickthall: | Lo! this (Qur'an) is a conclusive word, |
086.014 | |
Yusufali: | It is not a thing for amusement. |
Pickthall: | It is no pleasantry. |
086.015 | |
Yusufali: | As for them, they are but plotting a scheme, |
Pickthall: | Lo! they plot a plot (against thee, O Muhammad) |
086.016 | |
Yusufali: | And I am planning a scheme. |
Pickthall: | And I plot a plot (against them). |
086.017 | |
Yusufali: | Therefore grant a delay to the Unbelievers: Give respite to them gently (for awhile). |
Pickthall: | So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal thou gently with them for a while. |
Let us pray (Sura 20, Ayat 114) 'Ya Rabbi Zidni Ilma!' ('O Lord! Increase me in knowledge.') and seek spiritual help (ta'yid) to understand our great faith.
