"He it is Who blesseth you, and His angels (bless you), that He may bring you forth from darkness unto light; and He is ever Merciful to the believers." — Holy Qur'an 33:43

Holy Quran Verses from Pickthall and Yusufali's Translations

Surah Tatfiif: Defrauding

In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Yusufali:    Woe to those that deal in fraud,-
Pickthall:   Woe unto the defrauders:
Yusufali:    Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, exact full measure,
Pickthall:   Those who when they take the measure from mankind demand it full,
Yusufali:    But when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due.
Pickthall:   But if they measure unto them or weight for them, they cause them loss.
Yusufali:    Do they not think that they will be called to account?-
Pickthall:   Do such (men) not consider that they will be raised again
Yusufali:    On a Mighty Day,
Pickthall:   Unto an Awful Day,
Yusufali:    A Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the Worlds?
Pickthall:   The day when (all) mankind stand before the Lord of the Worlds?
Yusufali:    Day! Surely the record of the wicked is (preserved) in Sijjin.
Pickthall:   Nay, but the record of the vile is in Sijjin -
Yusufali:    And what will explain to thee what Sijjin is?
Pickthall:   Ah! what will convey unto thee what Sijjin is! -
Yusufali:    (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed.
Pickthall:   A written record.
Yusufali:    Woe, that Day, to those that deny-
Pickthall:   Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
Yusufali:    Those that deny the Day of Judgment.
Pickthall:   Those who deny the Day of Judgment
Yusufali:    And none can deny it but the Transgressor beyond bounds the Sinner!
Pickthall:   Which none denieth save each criminal transgressor,
Yusufali:    When Our Signs are rehearsed to him, he says, "Tales of the ancients!"
Pickthall:   Who, when thou readest unto him Our revelations, saith: (Mere) fables of the men of old.
Yusufali:    By no means! but on their hearts is the stain of the (ill) which they do!
Pickthall:   Nay, but that which they have earned is rust upon their hearts.
Yusufali:    Verily, from (the Light of) their Lord, that Day, will they be veiled.
Pickthall:   Nay, but surely on that day they will be covered from (the mercy of) their Lord.
Yusufali:    Further, they will enter the Fire of Hell.
Pickthall:   Then lo! they verily will burn in hell,
Yusufali:    Further, it will be said to them: "This is the (reality) which ye rejected as false!
Pickthall:   And it will be said (unto them): This is that which ye used to deny.
Yusufali:    Day, verily the record of the Righteous is (preserved) in 'Illiyin.
Pickthall:   Nay, but the record of the righteous is in 'Illiyin -
Yusufali:    And what will explain to thee what 'Illiyun is?
Pickthall:   Ah, what will convey unto thee what 'Illiyin is! -
Yusufali:    (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed,
Pickthall:   A written record,
Yusufali:    To which bear witness those Nearest (to God).
Pickthall:   Attested by those who are brought near (unto their Lord).
Yusufali:    Truly the Righteous will be in Bliss:
Pickthall:   Lo! the righteous verily are in delight,
Yusufali:    On Thrones (of Dignity) will they command a sight (of all things):
Pickthall:   On couches, gazing,
Yusufali:    Thou wilt recognise in their faces the beaming brightness of Bliss.
Pickthall:   Thou wilt know in their faces the radiance of delight.
Yusufali:    Their thirst will be slaked with Pure Wine sealed:
Pickthall:   They are given to drink of a pure wine, sealed,
Yusufali:    The seal thereof will be Musk: And for this let those aspire, who have aspirations:
Pickthall:   Whose seal is musk - for this let (all) those strive who strive for bliss -
Yusufali:    With it will be (given) a mixture of Tasnim:
Pickthall:   And mixed with water of Tasnim,
Yusufali:    A spring, from (the waters) whereof drink those Nearest to God.
Pickthall:   A spring whence those brought near (to Allah) drink.
Yusufali:    Those in sin used to laugh at those who believed,
Pickthall:   Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed,
Yusufali:    And whenever they passed by them, used to wink at each other (in mockery);
Pickthall:   And wink one to another when they passed them;
Yusufali:    And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting;
Pickthall:   And when they returned to their own folk, they returned jesting;
Yusufali:    And whenever they saw them, they would say, "Behold! These are the people truly astray!"
Pickthall:   And when they saw them they said: Lo! these have gone astray.
Yusufali:    But they had not been sent as keepers over them!
Pickthall:   Yet they were not sent as guardians over them.
Yusufali:    But on this Day the Believers will laugh at the Unbelievers:
Pickthall:   This day it is those who believe who have the laugh of disbelievers,
Yusufali:    On Thrones (of Dignity) they will command (a sight) (of all things).
Pickthall:   On high couches, gazing.
Yusufali:    Will not the Unbelievers have been paid back for what they did?
Pickthall:   Are not the disbelievers paid for what they used to do?

Let us pray (Sura 20, Ayat 114) 'Ya Rabbi Zidni Ilma!' ('O Lord! Increase me in knowledge.') and seek spiritual help (ta'yid) to understand our great faith.
