Surah Mursalaat: The Emissaries

In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

077.001
Yusufali:    By the (Winds) sent forth one after another (to man's profit);
Pickthall:   By the emissary winds, (sent) one after another

Yusufali:    Which then blow violently in tempestuous Gusts,
Pickthall:   By the raging hurricanes,

Yusufali:    And scatter (things) far and wide;
Pickthall:   By those which cause earth's vegetation to revive;

Yusufali:    Then separate them, one from another,
Pickthall:   By those who winnow with a winnowing,

Yusufali:    Then spread abroad a Message,
Pickthall:   By those who bring down the Reminder,

Yusufali:    Whether of Justification or of Warning;-
Pickthall:   To excuse or to warn,

Yusufali:    Assuredly, what ye are promised must come to pass.
Pickthall:   Surely that which ye are promised will befall.

Yusufali:    Then when the stars become dim;
Pickthall:   So when the stars are put out,

Pickthall:   And when the sky is riven asunder,

Yusufali:    When the mountains are scattered (to the winds) as dust;
Pickthall:   And when the mountains are blown away,

Yusufali:    And when the apostles are (all) appointed a time (to collect);-
Pickthall:   And when the messengers are brought unto their time appointed -

Yusufali:    For what Day are these (portents) deferred?
Pickthall:   For what day is the time appointed?

Yusufali:    For the Day of Sorting out.
Pickthall:   For the Day of Decision.

Yusufali:    And what will explain to thee what is the Day of Sorting out?
Pickthall:   And what will convey unto thee what the Day of Decision is! -

Yusufali:    Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!
Pickthall:   Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

Yusufali:    Did We not destroy the men of old (for their evil)?
Pickthall:   Destroyed We not the former folk,

Yusufali:    So shall We make later (generations) follow them.
Pickthall:   Then caused the latter folk to follow after?

Yusufali:    Thus do We deal with men of sin.
Pickthall:   Thus deal We ever with the guilty.

Yusufali:    Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!
Pickthall:   Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

Yusufali:    Have We not created you from a fluid (held) despicable?-
Pickthall:   Did We not create you from a base fluid

Yusufali:    The which We placed in a place of rest, firmly fixed,
Pickthall:   Which We laid up in a safe abode

Yusufali:    For a period (of gestation), determined (according to need)?
Pickthall:   For a known term?

Yusufali:    For We do determine (according to need); for We are the best to determine (things).
Pickthall:   Thus We arranged. How excellent is Our arranging!

Yusufali:    Ah woe, that Day! to the Rejecters of Truth!
Pickthall:   Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

Yusufali:    Have We not made the earth (as a place) to draw together.
Pickthall:   Have We not made the earth a receptacle

Yusufali:    The living and the dead,
Pickthall:   Both for the living and the dead,

Yusufali:    And made therein mountains standing firm, lofty (in stature); and provided for you water sweet (and wholesome)?
Pickthall:   And placed therein high mountains and given you to drink sweet water therein?

Yusufali:    Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!
Pickthall:   Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

Yusufali:    (It will be said:) "Depart ye to that which ye used to reject as false!
Pickthall:   (It will be said unto them:) Depart unto that (doom) which ye used to deny;

Yusufali:    "Depart ye to a Shadow (of smoke ascending) in three columns,
Pickthall:   Depart unto the shadow falling threefold,

Yusufali:    "(Which yields) no shade of coolness, and is of no use against the fierce Blaze.
Pickthall:   (Which yet is) no relief nor shelter from the flame.

Yusufali:    "Indeed it throws about sparks (huge) as Forts,
Pickthall:   Lo! it throweth up sparks like the castles,

Yusufali:    "As if there were (a string of) yellow camels (marching swiftly)."
Pickthall:   (Or) as it might be camels of bright yellow hue.

Yusufali:    Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!
Pickthall:   Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

Yusufali:    That will be a Day when they shall not be able to speak.
Pickthall:   This is a day wherein they speak not,

Yusufali:    Nor will it be open to them to put forth pleas.
Pickthall:   Nor are they suffered to put forth excuses.

Yusufali:    Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!
Pickthall:   Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

Yusufali:    That will be a Day of Sorting out! We shall gather you together and those before (you)!
Pickthall:   This is the Day of Decision, We have brought you and the men of old together.

Yusufali:    Now, if ye have a trick (or plot), use it against Me!
Pickthall:   If now ye have any wit, outwit Me.

Yusufali:    Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!
Pickthall:   Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

Yusufali:    As to the Righteous, they shall be amidst (cool) shades and springs (of water).
Pickthall:   Lo! those who kept their duty are amid shade and fountains,

Yusufali:    And (they shall have) fruits,- all they desire.
Pickthall:   And fruits such as they desire.

Yusufali:    "Eat ye and drink ye to your heart's content: for that ye worked (Righteousness).
Pickthall:   (Unto them it is said:) Eat, drink and welcome, O ye blessed, in return for what ye did.

Yusufali:    Thus do We certainly reward the Doers of Good.
Pickthall:   Thus do We reward the good.

Yusufali:    Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!
Pickthall:   Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

Yusufali:    (O ye unjust!) Eat ye and enjoy yourselves (but) a little while, for that ye are Sinners.
Pickthall:   Eat and take your ease (on earth) a little. Lo! ye are guilty.

Yusufali:    Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!
Pickthall:   Woe unto the repudiators on that day!

Yusufali:    And when it is said to them, "Prostrate yourselves!" they do not so.
Pickthall:   When it is said unto them: Bow down, they bow not down!

Yusufali:    Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

Yusufali:    Then what Message, after that, will they believe in?
Pickthall:   In what statement, after this, will they believe?
 

 

Let us pray (Sura 20, Ayat 114) 'Ya Rabbi Zidni Ilma!' ('O Lord! Increase me in knowledge.') and seek spiritual help (ta'yid) to understand our great faith.
